Based in Berlin, Mykita GmbH is a German eyewear manufacturer recognized internationally for its hand-crafted sunglasses. It was founded in 2003 by Harald Gottschling, Moritz Krueger, Philipp Haffmans and Daniel Haffmans. Derived from the common abbreviation of Kindertagesstätte, “Kita”, the name Mykita is a reference to their first workshop, a former day nursery. Currently, all their products are assembled manually at their headquarters in the Berlin Mitte.
Mykita operates its own stores in several cities, including New York, Monterey (Mexico), Paris, Zurich, Vienna, Cartagena de Indias, Tokyo and Berlin. In addition, its products are sold by partners from more than 60 countries.
In 2009, Mykita collaborated with Bernhard Wilhelm, an independent German fashion designer, and launched a new collection. This included a mirrored sunglasses model called “Franz”, which received global media attention once it was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City 2. After this, many important names in the fashion world began to associate with the brand, including Romain Kremer, Moncler, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Marios Schwab, and Agathe Snow. Mykita also worked with USLU airlines, a luxury cosmetics brand from Germany, to co-create 3 different aviator sunglasses with frames in the same colors as selected nail polishes.
