Persol is an Italian eyewear company founded in 1917 by the talented Giuseppe Ratti, photographer and owner of Berry Opticians. Persol eyewear was first created for racing pilots. To date, the company is known for their sturdy and stylish sports sunglasses.
The silver arrow featured on the hinges of all the models is a trademark that makes Persol eyewear easily recognizable. The unmistakable symbol of Persol, inspired by the swords of ancient warriors, is both a functional detail and a decorative element. It is now patented in several countries.
Most Persol sunglasses come with the Meflecto system, which enables the glasses to effectively adapt to any facial anatomy. Although this system was developed during the 1930s, it is still regarded as an innovative and distinctive feature of the Persol brand.
Persol has been introduced to the U.S. in 1962 and it has been continuously gaining popularity in the country ever since. Film and television stars such as Greta Garbo and Steve McQueen were know to be Persol fans. In 1991, the brand opened its first boutique on Rodeo Drive, in Beverly Hills. It is currently owned by the Luxottica group, which continues to make the Persol frames in the historical factory in Lauriano (Turin).
