A luxury fashion house from Italy, Prada was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino. Initially, the company was named ”Fratelli Prada” and it was located in Milan, Italy.
Mario's granddaughter Miuccia took over the company in 1978, by which time sales had reached $450,000. Miuccia Prada is still the creative head of the brand and, along with Bertelli, her husband and business manager, has a strong say regarding all the designs of the brand.
Her unparalleled ability to predict the trends and launch them before anyone else has proven to be instrumental in Prada's growth. Even though, throughout the years, more adjacent labels were launched (Miu Miu, Collezione Uomo, Prada Sport and Linea Rossa), Prada still holds the reigns of all that is cool, du jour and innovative in fashion.
